KUROHANA

Design rationale

Charcoal black, lantern paper and one vermilion, with Big Shoulders Display headlines, Shippori Mincho for the Japanese and IBM Plex Mono for the details. The hero sets KUROHANA behind skewers on the grill: each letter ignites ember-hot and cools, heats up under the cursor, and sparks rise through it. The menu hangs as a wall of wooden tags that turn over to show each skewer. Booking happens on a paper order slip you stamp with a 予約 seal, and the last section walks you from Shinjuku Station into Omoide Yokocho, the alley where the counter is set.
